Jane Does Well Co-Founders, Christina Pavlina and Sue Kisiday attend the signing of Bill H.4744 —a game-changing milestone that Jane Does Well and partners have worked hard to educate and advocate the extreme need for .. “Judges can now honor and understand that it is a crime if a victim complains of being isolated, their autonomy is restricted, they are threatened, intimidated, even if there is no physical violence, that they need protections from that behavior as well,” Pavlina said, explaining that lacking proof of physical violence, the victims of intimidation/coercive behavior had no protections at all. The push to pass this law was coordinated by a coalition formed for this purpose: Together Rising Above Coercion ,a statewide coalition of organizations, survivors, advocates and allies including Jane Doe Inc, The Massachusetts Law Reform Institute, Jane Does Well and The Mass Family Advocacy Coalition (MFAC), among others. The year-long efforts included targeted webinars, putting a book on coercive control into the hands of every legislator, letter-writing campaigns, a day of testimony in the legislature, and much more.
