The Cost of Silence:
Why Speaking Up Matters
Join award-winning author and cultural critic Soraya Chemaly for a compelling conversation about power, voice, and the transformative impact of speaking up in a culture that too often asks women to stay quiet.
About Soraya
Soraya Chemaly is an award-winning author, activist and cultural critic. For more than a decade she has written and spoken about gender, power, free speech and the ways our culture shapes women's lives.
Her first book, Rage Becomes Her: The Power of Women's Anger, was named a Best Book of 2018 by The Washington Post, NPR, Fast Company and Psychology Today, and has been translated into more than a dozen languages. She followed it with The Resilience Myth, a fresh look at what really helps us through hard times, and All We Want Is Everything, which has been called "a potent rallying cry for a beleaguered feminist movement."
Soraya is the former executive director of The Representation Project and cofounder of the Women's Media Center Speech Project. Her work is smart, warm and deeply practical, and she brings all of it to this conversation.
