Understanding Coercive Control: A Transformative Workshop with Dr. Mei-Ling Ellerman

May 13, 2025

Thursday, May 15 from 6:30p-7:30p on Zoom  | Hosted by Jane Does Well | Register: https://janedoeswell.wildapricot.org/event-6177121

Jane Does Well is honored to welcome Dr. Mei-Ling Ellerman for a powerful and practical introduction to her intensive training on coercive control—a form of abuse that is often invisible but deeply damaging to women and their children. Please join us this Thursday, May 15, for a critical conversation that could reshape how you understand abuse, protect yourself, and advocate for your family.

Dr. Ellerman will guide attendees through the concrete benefits of coercive control education, including how survivors can use Massachusetts’ new coercive control legislation to apply for protective orders. There will be time for questions, offering a valuable opportunity for direct engagement.

This course is especially helpful if you are currently experiencing:

  • Domestic abuse
  • Post-separation abuse, including abusive litigation
  • Custody challenges
  • Psychological abuse
  • Escalating control over your children

Through this session, Dr. Ellerman will preview her in-depth training, which helps survivors reframe and articulate their experiences using the coercive control model—a framework that gives voice to the often-overlooked patterns of manipulation and abuse. Survivors will gain tools to begin building their personal narrative, an essential step in protecting themselves and their families.

“Survivors themselves need to be trained—no one else will work as hard on their narrative or to protect their family from abuse,” says Dr. Ellerman.

What You’ll Learn:

  • The most common forms of abuse and control used against women and children
  • How coercive partners exploit systems like family court, schools, and legal processes
  • How to identify and respond to DARVO tactics: Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender
  • How to recognize patterns of manipulation that are designed to discredit survivors and silence their stories

Dr. Ellerman's work provides not only a foundation of knowledge but also a toolkit for action. Whether you are navigating the legal system, facing manipulative custody tactics, or trying to explain your situation to others, this workshop will equip you with the language and insight needed to speak your truth and protect your rights.

We hope you will join us for this eye-opening and empowering session. This is not just education—it’s strategy, support, and survival.
