Ask The Expert With Sharyn Sooho

Inspired by the adults in her life, Attorney Sooho grew up wanting to contribute meaningfully to her community.  After graduating from Boston University School of Law, she chose family law.  For over four decades, she has had the privilege of representing hundreds of people with their transitions into and out of marriages and other domestic partnerships.

In 1994 acted on a long-held desire to provide greater access to justice by creating a plain English explanation of family law.  That led to her firm producing and mailing a monthly newsletter to 3000 readers. They quickly realized that with the advent of the World Wide Web they could create, update and disseminate information without printing and mailing thousands of copies each month.

By May 1995, Attorney Sooho had one of the first online legal websites, DivorceNet.com, followed by the publication of the first of three editions of her book, “How to File for Divorce in Massachusetts.”  By 2010 DivorceNet published online content from more than 1800 family law lawyers around the world, and was one of the top three online family law sites.  DivorceNet is now owned and operated by Internet Brands as part of the Nolo and Avvo group.

Attorney Sooho is a founding member of the Asian American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts, former President of the Brandeis University Alumni Association, and has served on a number of other not-for-profit boards.  She currently sits on the board of the Scandinavian Charitable Society of Greater Boston, chairs its Development Committee and is a member of the Governance and Nominating Committee.  Attorney Sooho has also served on the Programs Committee of the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association and participated as a speaker at multiple continuing legal education programs, both locally and nationally.
